That depends on the color and sheerness of your lipstick. Glossy sheer lipsticks as well as matte lipsticks look great during daytime - a glossy sheer one would look very natural and dewy, while a matte one looks subdued even with stronger colors.





During night time, wear glossy lipsticks with stronger colors.





I would just like to point out that matte lipsticks haven't been fashionable since the 90's. In this day and age, stick with glossy lipsticks - they look more natural and don't dry out your lips.
